Some disused salt pans near Marseille Airport form this small ornithological reserve. I went at the end of the day to enjoy the flamingos in the setting sun.

Danube Delta
A rainy day photographing birds in the Danube delta while on a holiday to Romania and Bulgaria. Highlights were the white-tailed eagles, pygmy cormorants and Pallas’s gulls. We took a boat tour from Tulcea to the area around Mila 23 fishing village and back.
Skomer Island
Wonderful time on Skomer Island, just off the coast in Pembrokeshire, South Wales. The island is famed for its puffins, who at this time of year are busy fetching sand eels and other fish for their young. Camargue bird watching
An afternoon and evening in two locations in the Camargue: the Scamandre Discovery Centre and the Pont-de-Gau Ornithological Site. The highlight was seeing courtship between two spoonbills at Scamandre, the male in breeding plumage.
Bay of the Somme
Three days in the Bay of the Somme area, including two nature reserves – Grand-Laviers and Parc du Marquenterre – and walks near the coast. Weather ranged through rain, overcast, sun and early-morning mist.
Sri Lanka Endemic Birds
Sri Lankans are rightly proud of their 34 endemic bird species and on our trip we managed to see all except the Green-billed Coucal. I got usable photos of 24 of the species. The junglefowl is the national bird.

Some of the many bird species in Sri Lanka that are not endemic to the country. Most of these photos were taken at Negombo and the Muthurajawela Sanctuary, Aniwilundawa Bird Sanctuary, Wilpattu National Park, Horton Plains National Park, Sinharaja Rain Forest and Lunugamvehera National Park (the ones in the rain).

Texas: South Padre Island
This afternoon I was at South Padre Island, first the Birding and Nature Center and then the Isla Blanca beach. This was the best weather of my trip!

The first six photos were taken at a boat ramp along Texas Highway 48, then the rest of the morning was spent at Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge, near Port Isabel.
