On August 12th 2026 my wife, children and I managed to see the total solar eclipse from the village of Torre del Compte above the Matarraña Valley in Spain. It was a fantastic experience to see the total eclipse, the sun set still partially eclipsed and then head back to our hotel for a celebratory dinner.

Here is a flashback to August 21st 2017 when we saw our first total eclipse during a (deliberately extended) layover between flights at Atlanta (I have the boarding pass in my top pocket). Without much preparation we ended up in a strip mall in Carnesville, Georgia. My pictures weren’t that good but for me the planning and the experience are worth more than the photos.
